US – Canadian Aerospace Corridor via Vermont
In 2013 the Vermont Aerospace & Aviation Association, a division of the Vermont Chamber of Commerce, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Aéro Montréal, a strategic think tank for Québec’s $13.8 billion aerospace cluster, at the 4th edition of Aéro Montréal’s International Aerospace Innovation Forum in Montreal.
The vision and mission of the MOU and partnership is to create a U.S. – Canadian Aerospace Corridor via Vermont and facilitate the flow of supply chain opportunities between Vermont’s aerospace and aviation industry and Canada’s Aerospace Industry. The $28 billion Canadian aerospace industry is the fifth largest in the world and is home to renowned aerospace OEMs and prime contractors, including Bombardier, Bell Helicopter Textron, CAE, GE Canada, Heroux-Devtek, and Pratt & Whitney. Most Canadian companies source over 50% of their aerospace parts from the U.S.
Vermont, in return, offers Canada access to the state’s $2 billion aerospace manufacturing and supplier base with proven supply chain capabilities in precision machining, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), landing gear, fuel gauging, sensors, sensing systems, and electronics for aerospace and aviation applications. Vermont’s close proximity to Canada is also a competitive gateway with access to the entire North American market and large government contractors in both the U.S. aerospace and defense industries.

Vermont Chamber of Commerce to Provide Manufacturing Opportunities in Aerospace with Supply Chain Agreement and Aero Montreal
On Monday, December 2nd, the Vermont Aerospace & Aviation Association, a division of the Vermont Chamber of Commerce, is signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Aero Montreal, a strategic think tank for Quebec’s aerospace sector, at the 4th edition of Aero Montreal’s International Aerospace Innovation Forum in Montreal. Business Development professionals from the Vermont Chamber of Commerce and Vermont’s Agency of Commerce & Community Development will exhibit at the event in support of9 Vermont companies participating in business matchmaking at the Forum. Vermont will be the largest U.S.-state contingent at the international event.
The vision of the MOU and partnership is to create a U.S.-Canadian Aerospace Corridor via Vermont and to facilitate the flow of supply chain opportunities between Vermont’s aerospace cluster and Canada’s Aerospace Industry. The $22 billion Canadian aerospace industry is the fifth largest in the world and is home to renowned aerospace OEMS and primes, including Bombardier, Bell Helicopter Textron, CAE, Pratt & Whitney and Rolls Royce Canada. Most Canadian companies source over 50% of their aerospace parts from the U.S. Vermont offers Canada access to Vermont’s $2 billion aerospace supply chain with proven capabilities and resources in precision machining, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), landing gear, fuel gauging, sensors, sensing systems, and electronics for aerospace and aviation applications. Vermont’s close proximity to Canada is a competitive gateway with access to the North American market and U.S. aerospace industry.
“We celebrate the MOU signing and look forward to forging a strong partnership with Aero Montreal in building an aerospace corridor for enhanced trade and integrated supply chain opportunities,” said VAAA Chair Brian Dubie. “Vermont’s large presence at the Innovation Forum with nine participating companies
shows a strong commitment to this effort and partnership going forward.”
As a follow up to the MOU, the Vermont Chamber will hold an Aerospace Supply Chain Summit on Thursday, January 23rd, 2014. The Summit will feature Aero Montreal staff, presenting the MACH Initiative, Aero Montreal’s supply chain optimization program designed to increase global competitiveness in its aerospace sector. The Summit will also feature high-level procurement specialists from leaders in both u.S. and Canadian aerospace, including: Defense Logistics Agency – Aviation, GE
Aviation, Helicopter Support Inc., A Sikorsky Aerospace Services Company, Honeywell Aerospace, and Netur. To learn more, please visit contact Chris Carrigan, (802)223-0904, email@example.com.

Vermont’s position in the corridor between the global aerospace hubs of Connecticut and Quebec will come into focus Monday at the fourth International Aerospace Innovation Forum in Montreal.
The Vermont Aerospace & Aviation Association, a division of the Vermont Chamber of Commerce, will be joined by nine Vermont companies and the Agency of Commerce & Community Development when representatives sign a memorandum of understanding with Aero Montreal, a strategic think tank for Quebec’s aerospace sector.
Vermont’s contingent at the convention will be larger than any other American state at the international forum, according to a press release.
The MOU formalizes a loose working relationship between V AAA and Aero Montreal that’s been nearly two years in the making, according to Chris Carrigan, vice president of business development for the Vermont Chamber of Commerce. The organizations will share industry information and business opportunities to better integrate the cross-border supply chain.
On behalf of their members, the groups will share access to seminars, workshops and webinars, Carrigan said. They’ll also participate in some of each other’s events, starting with the Aerospace Innovation Forum from Dec. 2-4. Aero Montreal is scheduled to appear at the VAAA’s Aerospace Supply Chain Summit on Jan. 23 at the Burlington International Airport.
The collaboration is not limited to information and hand-shaking.
Aero Montreal has been developing an accreditation program to vet industry suppliers. As a result of the MOU, Vermont businesses will be able to plug into the so-called Mach Initiative – increasing the odds that they will be able to sell products to government contractors and original equipment manufacturers.
Carrigan said the concept behind the MOU gelled at the 2013 Paris Air Show, the oldest and largest trade show for commercial and military suppliers. In a shared booth similar to the one arranged for the Aerospace Innovation Forum, six Vermont companies traveled to Paris with officials from the Vermont Chamber, ACCD and U.S. Small Business Administration.
Carrigan said about $3.2 million in combined sales came out of the Paris exhibition.
Of the six companies that attended Paris, four will be in Montreal: Liquid Measurement Systems, North Hartland Tool Corp., TeamITAR and Metal Flex Welded Bellows Inc. Five more will join the Vermont contingent in early December: Stephens Precision Inc.; MMIC; Superior Technical Ceramics; MSI Inc. and KALOW Technologies.
The more than 250 companies in the Vermont Aerospace & Aviation Association are a $2 billion industry, Carrigan said. Their functions include precision machining; maintenance, repair and overhaul; and landing gear, fuel gauging, sensors, sensing systems and electronics.
North of the border, one in 189 Quebecers work in the aerospace industry at some 215 regional firms, according to Aero Montreal. In Connecticut, aerospace accounts for roughly 5 percent of the state’s economy, according to the Connecticut Economic Resource Center.
Vermont’s proximity between the global hubs, plus historical and cultural ties, position the state as a natural gateway for the North American market, Carrigan said.
